About the ENT and Head-Neck Cancer Foundation of Bangladesh
The ENT and Head-Neck Cancer Foundation of Bangladesh was founded by Late Prof. Dr. Mohammed Alauddin, one of Bangladesh’s most distinguished ENT surgeons. Driven by a lifelong commitment to improving medical care for all, Dr. Alauddin united a group of philanthropists, doctors, and professionals around a single purpose: to ensure that every person in Bangladesh — regardless of means — could access world-class ENT and head and neck cancer treatment.

Bangladesh faces a significant burden of ENT-related disease — from deafness, most prevalent in rural communities, to head and neck cancers, which account for nearly 30% of all cancers in the country. For a population of 160 million, just 250 government hospital beds existed for ENT patients. Those with the means to do so sought treatment abroad, while the vast majority of patients had access to little or no specialist care. Prof. Dr. Alauddin recognised this urgent need and dedicated himself to addressing it.
In April 2004, Dr. Alauddin led the establishment of the Foundation’s first hospital in a rented property in Dhanmondi, Dhaka — modest in facilities but bold in ambition. As word spread of the quality of care being provided, demand grew rapidly. The Foundation secured government land at Plot No. F-12, Agargaon Administrative Area, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, and undertook the construction of a dedicated modern hospital and institute. The project, costing Taka 249.35 million, was jointly funded by the Government of Bangladesh and the ENT and Head-Neck Cancer Foundation — a testament to the trust and credibility Dr. Alauddin had built.
Prof. Dr. Alauddin, alongside some of the most senior ENT specialists in the country, worked tirelessly to improve medicine and ENT care in Bangladesh until his passing in April 2011. The hospital he founded is his enduring gift to its people — and his legacy lives on in every patient who receives care within its walls.
Over two decades since its founding, the ENT and Head-Neck Cancer Foundation Hospital has grown into one of the most respected specialist institutions in Bangladesh. The hospital has built a strong reputation for delivering quality healthcare at affordable cost, and in many cases entirely free of charge to those most in need.
Patients travel from across the country — from remote villages to major cities — seeking specialist ENT and head and neck cancer care that is simply not available elsewhere. The hospital receives referrals from hospitals and clinics throughout Bangladesh, reflecting the trust that the wider medical community places in the Foundation’s expertise and standards of care.
Today, the hospital sees over 6,500 outpatients each month, admits 300 patients, and performs more than 200 surgeries — with 30% of all patients receiving treatment free of cost, funded through donations, government grants, and the Foundation’s Zakat fund.
